About this course

This four-day course utilises the ClassNK approved Liquid Cargo and Ballast Handling Simulator in our Maritime Simulation Centre - one of the UK's largest ship and port simulation centres.

It begins with a vessel which has just left a shipyard with air in its cargo tanks. The course then follows a voyage cycle, which includes inerting of cargo tanks, production of a loading plan from voyage orders and loading in accordance with the plan. Discharge of cargo begins with the de-bottoming of tanks and includes crude oil washing and taking heavy weather ballast into designated cargo tanks. Discharge is completed with the stripping of lines and pumps.

Each exercise is preceded with a briefing to cover the operation and equipment to be used, referencing recommended practice from ISGOTT and SOLAS regulations where appropriate.

The course is compliant with IMO Model Course 2.06.

The ship

  • 165,000 dwt Suezmax crude/products tanker
  • Conventional bottom lines with three steam driven main cargo pumps
  • Two eductors
  • One steam driven stripping pump
  • Two electric driven ballast pumps

Course delivery could additionally utilise a product tanker model.
