About this course

With cyber security attacks an increasing threat to technology used not just in shore-based organisations, but also on board modern ships, the IMO issued guidelines relating to cyber risk management in June 2017. Ship owners and managers must incorporate these guidelines into their safety management systems by 1 January 2021.

This three-day course, in partnership with maritime security specialists Cyber Prism, offers the essentials of practical cyber security for shore and sea. The course is designed to enable seafarers and shore-based personnel to develop an awareness of cyber security threats, types of attack, and concepts and techniques used by attackers. The course is suitable for all ship-and shore-based personnel who interact with IT and operational equipment.

What you'll learn

The course introduces you to the IMO’s new cyber security guidelines, the EU’s NIS Directive and the ISO 27000 standards for information security. You'll evaluate the methods of protecting data, maintaining privacy and system integrity. You'll also explore computer system design and networks in relation to information technology and operational technology. You will gain a CISCO Introduction to Cyber Security certificate, enhancing your continued professional development.

Day 1: An introduction to cyber security.

Day 2: Practical applications for maritime operations.

Day 3: Information, technology and operational systems.
