About this course

This course is part of the mandatory basic safety training for all seafarers with designated safety duties. It deals with the precautions needed to minimise the risk of fires, how fires are caused and how to extinguish them.

There is plenty of practical training, with a focus on using fire fighting equipment and breathing apparatus to extinguish various types and sizes of fires including casualty rescue in smoke filled enclosed spaces. Our multi-storey steel fire unit, fitted with simulated shipboard compartments, is used for live fire training.

NOTE: Those undergoing fire fighting training are required to complete and sign a confidential medical declaration to make us aware of any health problems, disabilities or injuries we may need to consider while you’re attending this physically demanding course. It is therefore essential you feel healthy and are physically fit to undertake such training.

Guidance for delegates who are or may be pregnant:

For safety reasons, we are unable to accept bookings for this course for anyone who is or thinks they may be, pregnant. This applies at any stage of the pregnancy.
