About this course

All seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on ships or any other vessel to which the ISPS code applies who require a Proficiency in Security Awareness certificate but are not attending the Basic Safety Training Week, will need to attend this four-hour online stand-alone course.

The course provides the necessary knowledge, and proficiency to those intending to work on ships who will not have any designated security duties.

Course delivery
This course is delivered online.

Free with Basic Safety Training Week
This course is not a part of the mandatory basic safety training courses (which include Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities, Personal Survival Techniques, and Elementary First Aid). However, those who book the Basic Safety Training Week can attend the shorter version of the Proficiency in Security Awareness course at no additional cost, in which case this course is run within the five-day Basic Safety Training Week.

What you'll learn

Upon completion, you should be able to:

  • contribute to the enhancement of maritime security through heightened awareness,
  • recognise security threats, and
  • understand the need for and methods of maintaining security awareness and vigilance.
