About this course

This course is best suited to those who already have some LPG experience and follows the syllabus set out by SIGGTO in their LPG Shipping Suggested Competence Standard (2008).

We currently offer two versions of this LPG simulator course – for working with LPG or ammonia. In addition, we can work with two different ship types – a fully refrigerated LPG tanker with type-A tanks, or a pressurised/refrigerated LPG tanker with type-C tanks. The pressurised/refrigerated model has the systems and functionality to handle ethylene as a cargo as well.

What you'll study

The course follows the drydock to drydock voyage cycle as the LPG tanker, but includes a wider range of subjects as set out in the SIGTTO syllabus.

There is an assessment on the final day and delegates must achieve a pass mark of 70% or more to be awarded the course certificate.

Some of the additional material is covered in the evenings using a study guide provided to each student.

Prerequisites

As the course follows the SIGTTO's LPG Shipping Suggested Competence Standards, there is insufficient time to go over basic LPG operational practice.

We suggest the following prerequisites for course delegates:

  • Three months' service on an LPG tanker as a competent officer
  • Hold a Tanker Endorsement (Liquefied Gas) or equivalent.

Delegates who do not meet the suggested prerequisites may attend the course and will be issued with a Letter of Attendance.
