About this course

This four-and-a-half-day advanced course is suitable for more experienced pilots, captains and senior deck officers who wish to further enhance their knowledge and understanding of ship handling techniques. It builds on the basics of the standard Ship Handling (Manned Models) course to involve more complex and intricate ship handling, with reference to situations they encounter in their sphere of operations.

The programme can be customised to meet the requirements and aspirations of the individuals attending, addressing more advanced issues such as the use of tugs. Superyacht officers may also wish to further their skills with this training.

What you'll learn

You will spend a concentrated period of time undertaking practical exercises in the manned models, supported by workshops and discussions.

The workshop sessions are timetabled into the schedule in consultation with the officers and pilots in attendance and can include, but are not limited to, channel work, turning, varying environmental conditions, tug use, anchor work, thrusters, interaction, rudders and propulsion systems, twin screw, SBM operations and local scenario berthing/un-berthing operations.
