About this course
The course uses the distinctive combination of manned models (three days), at our ship handling centre in Romsey, and the bridge simulator (two days) in our maritime simulation centre in Southampton to provide continued professional development for pilots. You can extend your knowledge and expertise, with particular reference to special situations encountered within your sphere of operations.
This course maximises the opportunities provided by these two complementary training methods and can be customised in time and content to meet individual requirements.
What you'll learn
You will have the opportunity to develop your existing skills and understanding of the behaviour and handling of ships using our fleet of manned models. This is followed by a number of scenarios in our bridge simulator in areas such as specific environmental conditions, exercises in own pilotage district or dealing with emergencies.
Workshop sessions are timetabled into the schedule in consultation with pilots in attendance and can include channel work, turning, varying environmental conditions, tug use, anchor work, thrusters, interaction, rudders and propulsion systems, twin screw, SBM operations and local scenario berthing/unberthing operations.
Please note: lunch and refreshments are included in the course fee.
