About this course
This tailor-made two-and-a-half-day course is primarily for experienced pilots who wish to further their knowledge of ship handling techniques, or who may wish to investigate or experiment with different scenarios. It is especially suitable for pilots who have previously undertaken a manned model ship handling course who wish to extend their expertise.
What you'll learn
Course objectives depend on the requirements of a pilotage authority or an individual pilot. These are determined through careful consultation before the course and during its early stages.
On completion of the course, you will at least have addressed the following:
- Revision on principles of ship handling.
- Further enhancement of ship handling skills.
- Practice of pilotage techniques in a variety of environmental conditions and port situations.
Workshop sessions are timetabled into the schedule in consultation the pilots in attendance and can include channel work, turning, varying environmental conditions, tug use, anchor work, thrusters, interaction, rudders and propulsion systems, twin screw, SBM operations and local scenario berthing/un-berthing operations.
Please note: lunch and refreshments are included in the course fee.
