About this course
This one, one-and-a-half-day or two-day course aims to provide those not directly involved in ship handling, but with links to the maritime industry, an opportunity to experience the challenges routinely encountered by marine pilots and ship masters.
It is aimed at shore-based personnel who have little seagoing or ship handling experience themselves but wish to enhance their knowledge and understanding. Delegates may be managers or senior executives in the maritime industry or be engaged more broadly in marine operations or the wider marine industry.
What you'll learn
Through a combination of observation, classroom workshops and practical exercises on the lake, participants will experience first-hand some of the problems routinely faced by those engaged in ship handling. Some theory outlining the principles will be addressed but the focus will be on building awareness through practical, enjoyable sessions, delivered by mariners and pilots with a wealth of industry knowledge and experience.
On completion of the course, attendees will be able to speak with some authority on the topic of ship handling and be able to relate to others the complexity and key issues handling a vessel entails. At the end of the course, delegates will receive a certificate of completion.
