About this course

This course forms part of the new second engineer officer qualification for small vessels less than 9,000kW and less than 3,000GT. It covers the required modules to enter the industry as a junior/assistant engineer, with the ability to progress through to the small vessel second engineer officer qualification.

What you'll learn

The course is a new addition to the Approved Engine Course 1 and provides enhanced practical and theoretical learning in the following key areas: 

  • Refrigeration plant 
  • Legislation and management 
  • On board maintenance 
  • Safe systems of work 
  • Lifting - safe operations 
  • Electrical distribution 
  • Basic hydraulic maintenance 
  • Basic maintenance skills 

You'll be taught by a team of fully qualified and experienced lecturers and technicians who bring a very real, practical understanding behind the theory, not only from the Merchant Navy, but also the superyacht industry.
