About this course
This one-day course provides refresher training for holders of an in-date, OPITO-approved BOSIET or TBOSIET, or FOET or TFOET certificate.
The training covers the requirements for areas of offshore activity using emergency breathing systems (EBS) (see note below). Inclusive escape chute training (ECT) meets mandatory or company-specific training requirements in this safety equipment. The combined training programme is fully approved by OPITO with supporting certification (see below) and both accredited to their Vantage database upon successful completion.
Note: the maximum interval between the successful completion of BOSIET training and subsequent completion of FOET training is four years. Continuation training may be undertaken 90 days prior to the expiry date of existing certification. OPITO has authorised a 'renewal' window prior to a current certificate expiry date for delegates in order to complete any OPITO-approved 'further' (refresher) training course without the delegate being time-penalised.
View the dispensation rules if your BOSIET/FOET certificate has expired.
Please note: This course is not suitable for offshore workers intending to travel in the UK or Dutch sectors where compressed air emergency breathing system (CA-EBS) training is a mandatory requirement. See our CAEBS courses for more information:

What you'll learn
The course consists of two OPITO-approved training programmes:
Further Offshore Emergency Training (FOET) - complements and refreshes existing emergency training, updating and reinforcing the knowledge gained on the BOSIET course regarding helicopter underwater escape training (HUET) and sea survival techniques, emergency first aid, fire fighting and self-rescue techniques using hoods.
This programme is designed to get the further offshore safety and emergency response training requirements for personnel working in the offshore oil and gas industry. Certification is issued with a four-year validity period.
Escape Chute Training (ECT) - introduces or refreshes both theoretical knowledge and practical exercises in the safe use of escape chutes increasingly used on offshore installations and vessels. Certification is valid for four years from the date of issue.
Escape chute training is an additional module developed by OPITO and acceptable under the Mutual Recognition of Basic and Refresher Safety and Emergency Preparedness Training agreement between Oil & Gas UK, Norsk olhe og gass (Norway), Olie Gas Danmark (Denmark) and NOGEPA (Netherlands).
The Mutual Recognition document has been in effect since November 2007 and was revised in September 2014 to continue harmonising offshore survival training standards within sectors of the European North Sea. The course will satisfy the offshore survival training requirements for personnel intending to work in the European sectors not requiring compressed air emergency breathing systems (CAEBS).
Prerequisites
PLEASE NOTE: Global Wind Organisation (GWO)/Renewable UK (RUK) Wind Turbine medicals (for example) do not meet the requirements of the HSE Diving at Work exemption for CA-EBS in-water training and therefore cannot be accepted as a pre-requisite for this course.
See our Further Offshore Emergency Training with CA-EBS and Escape Chute Training course if you require CA-EBS training (currently necessary within UK and Dutch North Sea sectors).
Guidance for delegates who are pregnant and wish to undertake training:
Delegates who are or think they may be pregnant and wish to undertake training should contact wms.shortcoursesales@solent.ac.uk before booking the course to obtain guidance regarding the additional documentary pre-requisite requirements.
