About this course
This OPITO-approved course is designed for personnel travelling over water by rotary wind aircraft where requirements exist for this emergency training with compressed air emergency breathing systems (CAEBS). Most offshore oil and gas installations, wind farm and vessel operators require their employees, contractors and, in some cases, even visitors to undertake training prior to travelling offshore as a minimum.
The training covers the requirements for areas of offshore activities where compressed air emergency breathing systems (CAEBS) are in use which meets mandatory or company specific training requirements with this safety equipment.
The training program is fully approved by OPITO with supporting certification and accredited to the Vantage database upon successful completion. The certificate is valid for four years from the date of issue.
CAEBS training is included in the main offshore safety training course BOSIET with CAEBS and Escape Chute Training.
Please note: This course is not suitable for persons intending to work on fixed/floating offshore oil and gas platforms/vessels where requirements for BOSIET and subsequent FOET training apply (which include other emergency response elements NOT included within this course). This stand-alone HUET course is for personnel travelling over water by rotary aircraft where requirements exist for emergency training with compressed air emergency breathing systems (CA-EBS).
If in any doubt, please confirm with your employer that this course is suitable for your intended industry sector - see our BOSIET with CA-EBS or FOET with CA-EBS courses for more information regarding emergency response training for oil and gas installations.
Prerequisites
OPITO require delegates to participate in CA-EBS In Water Training (IWT) exercises. As a result, delegates undertaking OPITO BOSIET/HUET/FOET with CAEBS courses will have to provide both the following at the point of enrolment:
- Valid OEUK (formerly OGUK) Medical/or valid Offshore medical issued by a body outside of the UK (recognised as equivalent to the OEUK). Other medical certificates recognised by the Diving at Work Regulations 1997 exemption DWR/1 of 2018 as being equivalent to an Oil and Gas UK Offshore medical certificate are:
- Netherlands Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Association Medical
- Norwegian Directorate of Health (Petroleum Sector medical)
AND
- A ‘Fit’ or ‘Unfit’ to undertake shallow water CA-EBS training certificate issued by a registered OEUK (formerly OGUK) examiner. This should have been done within the lifespan of the current offshore medical.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: If you possess a valid and current UK ENG1 Seafarers Medical (or a recognised equivalent seafarers medical, as listed in MSN1815) or HSE certificate of medical fitness provided by an Approved Medical Examiner of Diving (AMED) you will not be required to undertake 1) and 2) above, as you have already met the requirements of the Diving at Work Regulations 1997. Delegates must bring their ENG 1 (or equivalent seafarers medical) or HSE dive medical (as above) to course enrolment on day one. For guidance regarding HSE approved diving medicals, please refer to the HSE website.
PLEASE NOTE: Global Wind Organisation (GWO)/Renewable UK (RUK) Wind Turbine medicals (for example) do not meet the requirements of the HSE Diving at Work exemption for CA-EBS in-water training and therefore cannot be accepted as a pre-requisite for this course.
The above does not apply to delegates completing courses with LAPS rebreather.
Guidance for delegates who are pregnant and wish to undertake training:
Delegates who are or think they may be pregnant and wish to undertake training should contact wms.shortcoursesales@solent.ac.uk before booking the course to obtain guidance regarding the additional documentary pre-requisite requirements.
