HNC Marine Engineering (EOOW Alternative Graduate Route)

About this course

This programme is designed for those with specialised academic engineering qualifications who wish to pursue an EOOW (III/1) Certificate of Competency (CoC).

This programme has been created to support the alternative route to qualification described in MSN 1857 (M+F) - Amendment 1 and MIN 511 (M) - Amendment 1.

What you'll study

Candidates on this programme will complete the required MCA workshop skills training, all additional STCW certification courses, and attend tutorials prior to undertaking IAMI EOOW Engineering Knowledge (EK) written exams (on general, steam/motor, and instrumentation and control engineering knowledge) and the MCA oral exam. 

Candidates on this programme will complete the required MCA workshop skills training; all additional STCW certification courses; additional modules required to achieve a HNC in Marine Engineering and Competency Assessment preparation.

Prerequisites

This route allows engineering graduates who already have a degree, Higher National Diploma (HND), Higher National Certificate (HNC) in an engineering discipline, or those with a suitable engineering apprenticeship (NVQ level 3 or above) to have their qualifications assessed for entry onto the UK EOOW training programme.

If your qualifications meet the requirements for this programme, you must apply to an MCA-approved nautical college (such as Warsash Maritime School) for an Action Plan detailing the requirements you must meet to obtain an EOOW Certificate of Competency (CoC). You will also need to send us a completed application form and a full copy of your (highest) qualification and transcript.

If your qualification was completed outside of the UK, you must obtain and send as an ENIC letter with your application confirming the comparable standard of your qualification to a UK equivalent. Please refer to the MIN511 Amendment 1.

You must also hold a medical fitness certificate recognised by the MCA.

This route is available as a cadetship route for those eligible.

To apply for your action plan you should send the above documents to the admissions team: admissions@solent.ac.uk

Please note that you will need to pay a non-refundable fee of £250 for your documentation to be reviewed and, where necessary, action plan to be generated. If you are applying through a cadetship, you should apply through your sponsor.
